Question by : What "furniture" do I need for my baby? My first daughter is due in August and I have basically NO experience with human babies. Raised on a farm and don't have a problem with the cute furry ones. I have really no idea what I'm going to need for her. Trying to find a basic list online is hard. I know I need a crib, changing table, car seat, high chair... Could you tell me what was/is most useful to you? I plan on breast-feeding mostly, but I have to go to work, so she will be bottle fed some, and using cloth diapers. Any tips would be great. Thanks!! Best answer:

You actually need far less than you think. For instance, I have 5 kids and I've never owned a changing table. A high chair can wait for quite a while. Get the crib, and a bassinet if you have a 2 story house so you have somewhere for the baby downstairs so you can avoid the steps all day. Car seat, stroller or baby sling, nursing pads for you, a couple bottles, and then the usual stuff I'm sure you're already collecting.

We co-sleep, and never owned a crib. A changing table can be nice, but it's certainly not ncessary. We use a contoured changing pad on our bathroom counter, because there's room there. A car seat is definitely necessary if you baby is goingto be riding in a car. The high chair can wait until your bay can sit up. A dresser to keep baby's clothes in is nice, but it doesn't have to be fancy. Babies really don't need nearly as much as stores would like you to believe you need to buy!

We have a crib, a carseat, a stroller, and a high chair. That's it. We changed our baby on top of our low dresser until he started rolling over, now we just get on the floor to change him.

You need a crib 97;nd also a playpen would be helpful for her to nap in the living room. You need a Car seat. Also a swing and/or bouncy chair would be helpful. Bath tub. A Boppy is great to have also. A changing table is nice but not necessary you can change anywhere. You wont need things like a high chair or walker until after about eight months.

Travel system, it's a car seat and pram together. My daughter loves me taking her out for a walk in it. Baby bouncers are useful, not a necessity. Some simple colourful toys for when she is a bit older. Hope some of these help. Good luck.

Well I don't have a changing table and I 114;eally do not need it. I don't have a crib either but it's because I have no room for it. I only have a playpen, a highchair, her dresser, stroller and carseat. I got a lot of bottles but unfortunately for me their no use because my baby is scarred of eating through the bottle or of me. (Tube fed) for now I hope. I have lots of clothes but because most of my cousins have daughters and they gave me their clothes. I haven't bought her clothes for right now or a long time. I do have diapers but you mentioned you'll use the cloth diapers. Just an opinion you might just in case get a box of diapers only because you might change your mind. I tried using cloth dia pers but it just didnt work out for me. Oh and you might need a small bath tub for your baby, baby lotion (try aveeno), johnsons baby wash (head to toe), wash clothes, a hair brush, a small nail clipper,Desitin in case of a diaper rash, baby oil(you just never know for what you'll need it) and baby wipes just in case. Fromula of course. Okay the stroller I do use but the high chair I don't think I'll start using till she's 6 or 7 months. The playpen I need it sometimes, but only because she's more comfy sleeping with me. Oh and you'll definitly need the soap dreft for baby's clothing and some recieving blankets to keep around and bibs.

A breast pump is a must if you intend on going back to work shortly after having her. Also, a stroller and a bouncer or a swing would be helpful. A boppy pillow would make feeding much easier. I still use mine and my little boy is 7 months old.

some place for her to sleep or a co-sleeper since your breastfeeding. and a car seat. a breast pump so you can keep breast feeding her while your working. I had a changing table and NEVER used it. I change them whe& #114;e ever we happen to be.

Hi There! I'm a new mom, so I know exactly how you feel. Fortunately, I now have 8 months under my belt...so I've been able to figure out the 'must -haves" and the "get by withouts." As far as furniture for the nursery you'll obviously need a crib, changing table, and I suggest, a rocker/glider. Depending on how big your nursery is you could get a dresser/changing table combo, an armoire or a taller dresser. Here's an article that might help you even more with baby furniture. http://www.ehow.com/how_4900929_buy-baby-furniture-small-nursery.html I am still breastfeeding and I used the Medela double pump. It's fast (10 minutes total) and the pump is still going strong! I would suggest a boppy pillow, bumpo w/ tray, onesies in all sizes, bibs, stroller (depending on your needs you might want more than one - jogger, travel system, umbrella, etc), diaper genie, changing table pad, pack n play, car seat, and extra car seat base, playmat, bottle drying rack, bottle sterilizer. If your baby is going to daycare you'll need extra sheets, bibs, clothes to keep t& #104;ere as well. There are tons of baby products you can get, but these are what I think are the essentials. Here's another article that might help you start building a baby registry or just give you more ideas of what you might want to get. http://www.ehow.com/how_4823565_build-baby-registry.html Good luck! I've also listed a few links you might find helpful in the sources section.
